Soon accepting applications for our first cohort for the month of July!

Foundations in Healthcare

We are excited to introduce our Foundations in Healthcare Program—a 4-week hybrid course based in San Jose, CA, designed for motivated high school students interested in healthcare, medicine, anatomy, and physiology. With live virtual lectures, hands-on workshops, guest healthcare professionals, and real-world applications, students will build a strong foundation for a future in medicine.

As this is our first time offering the program, we’re offering the program at a discounted rate in exchange for your honest feedback so we can continue to improve it for future students.

Program Structure & Location

The program consists of two weeks of lectures and two weeks of workshop:

  • Virtual Lecture & Guest Speaker (90-120 min) – Live via Zoom

  • Lectures will be recorded

  • In-Person Workshop in San Jose, CA (60-90 min) – Hands-on practice

  • We are currently only offering our workshops in San Jose, CA. Exact location will be sent in the welcome email upon acceptance.

Each cohort will be capped at 12 students to ensure personalized attention and an engaging learning environment.

Virtual Lecture Format (90-120 min)

Each session will begin with a guest speaker, who will share their journey to becoming a healthcare provider. They will offer a look at their day-to-day work, and present real patient case studies and clinical stories that highlight their unique approach to care. Speakers may include MDs, DOs, RNs, PAs, PharmDs, DDSs, ODs, DPTs, DCs, LAcs, and students pursing their degrees.

Each lecture will cover key concepts in anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, and explore how different medical professionals approach treatment and healing. At the end of the online sessions, students will receive follow-up exercises, take a brief review quiz, and gain a preview of the upcoming lecture.

Students will receive a comprehensive workbook with worksheets, anatomy visuals, and medical terminology to guide their learning and serve as a study tool throughout the course.

In-Person Workshop (60-90 min)

The workshops provide students with hands-on practice in foundational healthcare skills. Potential workshops include:

  • Blood pressure & vital signs

  • Cranial nerve exams

  • Kinesiology taping

  • Patient history taking

  • Injection practice (on models)

  • Basic suturing techniques

  • Palpation

  • Orthopedic testing

  • Mind-body techniques

Workshops will be 60-90 minutes long to allow plenty of time for hands-on practice and Q&A with instructors.

Opportunities Beyond the Classroom

Our goal is to continue providing students with real-world experiences beyond our 4-weeks together. During and after the conclusion of the program, students will have access to:

  • Shadowing Opportunities – Through our network of healthcare professionals, students will be invited to observe and participate in clinical environments, gaining practical insight into patient care. Sign-up sheets will be shared via email.

  • Clinical Applications – Students will put their skills into action at community wellness events, local gyms, and health centers. These experiences include public health outreach, team-based projects, and health education—helping students build clinical confidence while positively impacting their communities. Event sign-ups will be emailed.

  • TA & Leadership Opportunities – After successful completion of the program, students will have the chance to return as Teaching Assistants in future cohorts. This is a great way to strengthen leadership skills and gain a personalized letter of recommendation.
