Bao Nguyen

I am a driven student pursuing a degree in Neurobiology at UC Davis, with a strong focus on neuroscience research and its practical medical applications. My research experience includes investigating biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease in older patients, which I have explored through over 800 clinical hours as a medical assistant. I specialize in venipunctures and blood draws for laboratory analysis, collaborating with organizations like LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics to advise on preventative patient nutrition.

In addition to my research work, I have significant clinical experience as a medical assistant and phlebotomist in clinical healthcare settings. I manage patient flow for four providers, averaging 48+ patients daily. I perform essential tasks such as blood draws, vitals, patient referrals, specimen collection and transportation, insurance authorization, and restocking medical supplies.

I am passionate about advocating for healthcare access within the Vietnamese and Asian communities. I have worked closely with Vietnamese-speaking patients in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Neurosurgery Spine Specialization clinics, ensuring smooth communication and quality care for native and non-native speakers.

In my research lab, I work closely with genotypes, perfusions, and surgery in the neurological surgery department for UCD School of Medicine Neurosciences. There I will be assisting in research on sleep and its correlation with neurodegenerative diseases.

Outside of my professional work, I actively volunteer with organizations such as Vitalant Blood Bank, Thriving Pink Breast Cancer Organization, and Second Harvest Food Bank, all deeply aligned with my values of giving back to the community.

In my time, I enjoy creating art, photography, graphics design, and singing karaoke with friends and colleagues. Embracing culture and applying creativity in research and patient care is my goal throughout life.

I am always eager to connect with professionals in the healthcare and research fields to share knowledge, collaborate, and contribute to positive change in medical research and patient care.
