Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do I need prior medical or science experience to apply?
Nope! We welcome students of all backgrounds who are curious about healthcare and motivated to learn. Most of the material we cover is not taught in many middle/high schools. Students are may review their anatomy notes from school if they find it helpful.
-
What if I can't attend every session?
Lecture recordings are available for a few days so students can catch up or rewatch. These are made available to students with excused absences (vacation, family events, etc). In-person workshops are hands-on, and difficult to make up. Our TAs will do their best to make sure you learn any missed materials. Please choose the time and week of workshops that you can commit to.
-
What should students bring to the in-person workshops?
All materials will be provided. If a student prefers to bring their own stethoscope, they may choose to do so. Attire requirements change from day to day depending on the activity, and all students will be notified the day before.
-
What if I can no longer attend the program?
If you can no longer attend our program and notify us at info@shcinstitute.com by May 30, you will receive a full refund for your tuition. You may receive a partial refund for your deposit, and is left to the discretion of our organization. If you have an absence we will do our best to catch you up. Please refer to the refund policy.
-
What makes this program different from other healthcare summer camps?
Unlike one-day or short-term camps, our hybrid model combines academic learning, hand-on practice, mentorship from real healthcare professionals, and opportunities beyond the program. We emphasize a hands-on approach and discuss relevant and controversial topics. Students dont just explore healthcare, they start building their foundation for a future career.

Can students use this program for college applications or volunteer hours?
Absolutely. Participation demonstrates initiative, leadership, and a clear interest in healthcare. Participating in our outreach events shows colleges that you are proactive and want to make a change in the community. Certification of volunteer hours at our outreach events will be provided.
