Lauryn Lee

Hi! I am a sophomore at the University of California, Davis majoring in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior in hopes of either PA or MED school after college. I am extremely passionate about the healthcare field and peak interests in specialities including family medicine, cardiology, and pediatrics. As I continue my undergraduate, I will take on obstacles that will take me down but just enough to motivate me to keep going and prove myself that I belong here.

In my junior and senior year of high school, I devoted myself to Aegis Living Senior homes where I took care of residents ranging in illnesses like Alzhemiers and dementia. And after constant care I provided each day which included, feeding, changing clothes, giving medicines, ensuring residents during stressful times, and leading activities, this sparked my interest in the health career as I enjoyed helping those around me and giving back to my community. The small interactions I had with each of the residents always brought joy to me and knowing that I gave such a service to someone embarked me to continue it as a career in life.

During my first year as a pre-med student at Davis, I helped organize one of the biggest Pre-health Conferences at UC Davis which was an incredible opportunity to explore, network, and attend workshops. This event connected with schools all over the states to meet with admission recruiters and learn more about their program ranging in doctor, physician assistant, or nursing careers. I joined the Pre-PA and Pre-MED AMSA club to gain more insight from guest speakers, peers, and make new friends along the way.

When I am not studying for my classes, I am a Director of Research for Medications/Alternatives for a non-profit organization called MEDDIP. Where I am creating educational guides and readings amongst the important medications that have proven to help with diseases such as diabetes, dementia, cardiovascular, cancer, and more. I am currently working on my own article/blog targeting cardiovascular disease and the helpful medications that can help reduce the symptoms of the disease in the long-term. As I continue to work for this program, I hope to write other health related articles that provide people with guidance, hope, and strength to overcome obstacles they may face.

Another thing that I am currently doing is getting my medical assistant certification so that I can start gaining clinical hours in hospitals/workplace. And I will be taking on a global health internship in the Philippines where I will be providing patient care in one of the biggest hospitals in Manila alongside the doctors. While also learning the societal barriers, limited hospitalization, and economic conflicts that the people in the Philippines struggle with overcoming. I hope to make an impact on peers, make changes in those health disparities, and spread my kindness to the community. But other hobbies I like to do include volleyball, watching Korean dramas, and reading.

Coming into this program, I hope to uplift the next generations of students by teaching them useful and hands-on skills that are very important in the healthcare field. And I hope also, to gain as much leadership and responsibilities for something that I am truly passionate for. I am so excited to be a part of this program and I can't wait to work with Dr. Ng!
